SUPPORTERS of a community wood in Weymouth start work this weekend on a project to preserve the area for future generations.
Residents have got together to form the Friends of Radipole Wood, a six-acre home to an abundance of trees, plants, and wildlife which is situated between Radipole Lane and the Weymouth Way bypass.
It is hoped the site can be made the subject of a bid for English Nature's Wildspace scheme and designated a local nature reserve(LNR).
On Sunday, from 10am-3pm, Dorset County Council rangers Julian Cooper and Wayne Hope will be leading a training day at Radipole Wood.
Everyone is welcome to help carry out simple tasks like fence mending, planting and general clearing up.
Those interested should bring gloves and suitable footwear.
The Friends have held a number of meetings to get the project off the ground and they hope the event on Sunday will be the first of many days of physical action when everyone mucks in for the good of the wood.
